Great news – after six years of campaigning by asylum tenants G4S has lost their asylum housing contracts.
Serco and the Mears Group will share the new 10 year contracts across the UK.
In Yorks, the Humber and the North East the Mears Group (a housing management and repairs and social care group) will take over from G4S.
A great day for asylum housing tenants and a victory exposing the Hostile Environment and the companies who develop and exploit ‘asylum markets’.G4S the largest security company in the world has been ‘stopped’ – at least in asylum housing.
In celebratory solidarity

Well done John & SYMAAG. Congrats!!

Living with lifelong exile: Reflections on the Chilean case workshop. London

This workshop will explore the long term impacts of exile, particularly in relation to health and wellbeing, drawing lessons from Chilean experiences of exile to the UK. Literature around refugee coping strategies has tended to focus on the immediate aftermath and few years after arrival. There is however a lack of knowledge and discussion in the literature about the long term health and well being of refugees who stay in the host country after return is technically possible. The Chilean case offers opportunity to understand how far forced migrants are able to adapt to life in the host country and how people cope in the long term with the impact of trauma and torture.

The workshop will take place on Saturday 23rd January 2016, from 10.00 to 18.00 at Birkbeck, University of London

Jethro”

All profits will go to the Bottletop Foundation :
“Bottletop empowers over 35,000 young people each year. We do this through creative projects that tackle delicate teenage health issues ranging from the prevention of HIV/AIDS and unplanned teenage pregnancy to drug abuse and gender equality. Film, youth newspapers, drama, music and peer education are some of the effective ways that we interest and engage young people.”
