_VIGIL 1120130014We at Chile Scda are all shocked and saddened to hear about Harry’s passing.
Harry will be always remembered by our community for his solidarity in denouncing the human rights atrocities of Pinochet’s dictatorship in our country.
Harry was elected as the MP for Sheffield Brightside and Hillsborough in May last year.
A former miner – maybe the final deep coal miner ever to enter parliament – Harry was fiercely proud of his union roots and stood firm on the picket line for a full year during the miners’ strike at the Nottinghamshire pit where he worked. He put his background in energy to good use when he was promoted to the role of Parliamentary Private Secretary to the Shadow Energy and Climate Change Secretary.

As his Facebook page relates: “In typically blunt fashion he took the prime minister to task for ‘warm words, hand wringing and some crocodile tears’ when it came to local job losses at Forgemasters and the future of our city’s iconic steel industry. To the very last, he was passionate about Sheffield.”
A big loss to Sheffield.
We offer our heartfelt condolences and solidarity to Harry’s family, and to all his colleagues and friends in this difficult time.
Harry will be sorely missed.
