Over the past decade, Latin America has seen a resurgence of prosecution of individuals responsible for massive human rights violations during recent authoritarian regimes.
The UK arrest of former Chilean dictator Augusto Pinochet in 1998 proved to be merely a first milestone: his Peruvian counterpart Alberto Fujimori recently became the first former head of state ever extradited to his home country to stand trial for human rights crimes.
