Amador Pantoja Rivera y Juan Francisco Peña Fuenzalida eran estudiantes de Tercero Medio y cumplían el servicio militar en 1974. Fueron torturados y ejecutados por efectivos del Ejército, estableció el ministro Billard. Sus cadáveres fueron enterrados en las inmediaciones del parque de Lauca

El ministro en visita Joaquín  Billard dictó acusación contra 7 militares en retiro en la investigación por los homicidios calificados de Amador Pantoja Rivera y Juan Francisco Peña Fuenzalida, ambos ex reclutas del regimiento Rancagua de Arica.

Aldo González, QEPD

Desde la lejana Lima nos llega la triste noticia del alejamiento de este mundo de nuestro compañero y amigo Aldo González.

Nos queda en la memoria  su contagiante alegría, positivismo y procupación por el conjunto en el oscuro contexto  de represión , aprensiones personales y colectivas de la represión.

La generación de Baquedano 1, Cárcel de Arica, de la que Aldo fue parte se une al inmenso dolor familiar y hace llegar a sus familiares y amigos sus más sentidas condolencias.

Queremos hacer saber del sensible fallecimiento de nuestro compañero, amigo y miembro de nuestra comunidad Jorge Valeria. Jorge compartió activamente su exilio con todos nosotros y nos deja un inmenso testimonio de amistad, alegría y solidaridad.

Jorge se nos fue, acompañado por todos sus seres queridos, a tempranas horas de esta madrugada .

Desde estas páginas hacemos llegar, en nombre de toda la comunidad,  nuestras más sentidas y sinceras condolencias a sus hijos Janette, Quito, Paola y a todos sus familiares y amigos en ésta y en nuestro país.

Jorge’s funeral service will be held on Thursday 17th November at 10am, at Mother of God & Saint Wilfrid Church ,  Abbeydale Road, Sheffield S7 1DX

The burial will take place at Abbey Lane Cemetery at 11:30am.

There will be a wake at Cubanas Tapas Bar, on Trippet, Lane 34 Trippet Lane, Sheffield from 1pm until 5pm, with Chilean food and drinks, and the opportunity to celebrate his life together with his family.

Asesoría Ciudadana acusa a Carabineros de emplear contra un manifestante método waterboarding o ahogamiento a bordo de un micro policial estacionado en las afueras dela Usach. El emblemático caso será presentado este viernes en Washington ante la Comisión Interamericana de Derechos Humanos de la OEA.

“En un momento me acuestan de espalda en el pasillo de la micro, siempre esposado por la espalda. Me cubrieron la cara con la polera que tenia en el cuello y me empezaron a tirar agua en la cara. Me desesperé. Me ponía para el lado para poder respirar y ellos me volvían a agarrar para ponerme de espalda. Tosía y tosía y cuando me volvía a desesperar me dejaban de tirar agua. Me hacían descansar como 5 segundos y me volvían a tirar agua. Creo que fueron varias botellas. Fueron como 15 chorros en un lapso de 7 a10 minutos”.

Sheffield CSC screens 2011 film on the Miami Five

Sheffield CSC is screening the 2011 film,‘ Will the Real Terrorist Please Stand Up’, by award-winning US documentary maker and writer Saul Landau, at the Red Deer, Pitt Street on  Monday 7th November. The meeting starts at 7.30pm.

The documentary addresses the case of the Cuban Five, known in the UK as the Miami Five, the Cuban counter-terrorism agents who infiltrated the anti-Cuba terror groups in Miami in the 1990s who, among other actions, bombed hotels in Havana, killing an Italian tourist as part of a ‘free fire zone’ attack on Cuba’s tourism industry. The Five, against whom no evidence of espionage against the US was offered, were nevertheless given long sentences for conspiracy. Read the rest of this entry »

Deadlock over who should pay for education, and who should profit from it

It was back in May, in the southern-hemisphere autumn, when Chile’s students and many schoolchildren began taking to the streets to demand wholesale reform of the education system. Now spring has come, but there is no sign of settling what has turned into the most serious political conflict for two decades in Latin America’s most successful country. Talks between the students and the government began in August, but broke down on October 5th. Chile is paying an increasingly high price for the deadlock.
