Chile40YearsOn: Exhibition of Chilean arpilleras and Patchworks in Sheffield

This is a unique opportunity to see arpilleras made by relative of prisoners and disappeared people under Pinochet’s regime. Selected samples of arpilleras will be exhibited together with patchworks designed and made by members of the ChileScda’s Andes group who responded to their exile by interweaving memories from home and the life they now lived. (This exhibition is part of ChileScda’s commemoration of the 40th Aniversary of the human-social and economic tragedy brought about by General Pinochet’s military coup in Chile.

Dates: Tuesday 18th June to Saturday 22nd June 2013

Venue: Chile Scda, Park House, Abbeyfield Park, Sheffield S4 7AT

Time: Daily from 10:00 to 6:00pm, except Thursday 20th, 10:00 to 7:30pm

Gran Bretaña: Se establece la red Chile40YearsOn para conmemorar el 40 Aniversario del golpe militar en Chile

La red, Chile 40 Years On, está compuesta por una gran variedad de organizaciones, grupos de personas e individuos que ya comienzan a organizar eventos para recordar y rendir homenaje a las víctimas de la represión del siniestro terrorismo de estado y denunciar el legado de de la dictadura de Pinochet.

Chile 40 Years On network

This year marks the 40th anniversary of the Chilean coup d’etat  that ousted the constitutional president of Chile, Salvador Allende, from office and gave rise to the vicious dictatorship of General Augusto Pinochet 11th September  2013. The Chile 40 Years On network has been set up to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the Chilean human and social tragedy brought about by Pinochet’s dictatorship.

Thousands of people were tortured and killed, others ‘disappeared’ at the hands of the authorities, the secret police and more were illegally detained. Men, women and children were rounded up by the military and taken from their homes. Most were never seen alive by their families again. 1 million people were forced  into exile. Please, support us and the local community, too!

As you may know, after 18 years based at the Norbury Centre in Pitsmoor the ChileScda has been requested to move out of the buiding.  The building will close down this coming March as a result of the Council cuts.

Following positive discussions with Friends of the Abbeyfield Park we have been, in principle, offered accomodation in the Abbeyfield House, this is the listed building situated in that park. However the House is in need of some urgent repairs, in addition the Council are undecided on the future of the house.
