The vibrant and colorful music and dance of Latin America returns to Machynlleth on Sat 4th September with a concert : “South American Celebration”, taking place at Y Plas. This is just a taster of the forthcoming bi-annual Victor Jara Festival of 2011 that takes place in Machynlleth, within the outstanding natural beauty of the Dyfi Valley.
Italian songstress Silvia Balducci, who has delighted audiences for many years with her stirring renditions of the songs of Victor Jara and Violeta Parra, will be there. This will be her third performance in Machynlleth, and on this occasion she is joined by Chilean charango player Fernando Toro.
“Rompiendo Fronteras” is a recently formed band fronted by Bolivian multi-instrumentalist Milton Flores. They play uniquely beautiful arrangements of revolutionary songs and ballads from all over Latin America.
“Baila Peru” is a dance troupe which will present two traditional Peruvian dance sequences entitled Saya and Anaconda.
Chilean , Sergio Lagos will present a homage to martyred President of Chile Salvador Allende, and later in the evening there will be lively dance music from Cloud Cuckoo.
There will also be Latin American food served in the Plas cafe from 5.30pm.
