In the last 4 weeks the UK Government has stepped up its war against asylum seekers.

It has:

  • Reduced asylum benefits for people over 25 to just £5 a day
  • Violently – and unsuccessfully – tried to deport Iraqi asylum seekers to war-torn Baghdad
  • Made claiming asylum more difficult: initial asylum claims can only be made in person at the UK Borders Agency Croydon office
  • Is preparing to resume deportations to Zimbabwe, claiming there have been “positive changes” there

At the last meeting of the South Yorkshire Migration and Asylum Action Group (SYMAAG) we agreed to organise a protest against these attacks. We propose to organise a demonstration in Sheffield on Saturday 28th November.

We invite you to an organising meeting to plan for this demonstration on Monday 9th November at 6pm.

Your ideas for other activities are very welcome too.

The meeting is at Scotia Works, Leadmill Road, Sheffield city centre S1 4SE

If you want to come to the meeting but find it hard to afford transport don’t be put off!  Please bring your ticket or a receipt and we can pay you back at the meeting. Or let us know in advance.
